The South African 1 Ounce Silver Krugerrand

In 2017 the South African Mint unveiled the Silver Krugerrand, building on the long, successful history of the Gold Krugerrand, one of the best-known bullion coins in the world. Minted by the Rand Refinery in Pretoria, the Silver Krugerrand was introduced on the 50th Anniversary of its big brother to satisfy long-standing investor demand for a silver version of this famous coin.

Since the 1960s, the Gold Krugerrand has been recognized and traded worldwide. This beautiful silver bullion coin containing 1 troy ounce of .999 silver now makes the iconic “Krugerrand” available at an affordable price point.

The name “Kruger” is from the former South African president Stephanus Johannes Paulus “Paul” Kruger, whose profile is depicted on the obverse side of the coin. “Rand” is the South African unit of currency. The image on the reverse of the coin, designed by Coert Steynberg, is the Springbok Antelope, the national symbol of South Africa.
